For Dr. Kershen and his amazing staff:

My name is Barbara Kerr and I live in Hereford, Texas.  I was diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease in 1998.  At that time I was prescribed Hydrocodone and muscle relaxers and was told the disease would get worse as the years passed.  The medical doctors I worked with told me not to ever go to a chiropractor because they would only make the condition worse; perhaps even paralyzing me from the neck down.
I followed their advice for 12 long, painful years.  Every day was filled with constant neck pain and depression.  I had no energy, no desire to do anything!  My sons were still in school and I can’t tell you how many things I missed because of the pain and the side effects of my medication.  Finally in October of 2009, my left arm began to go numb constantly.  My sister has the same condition, and her doctor’s only advice was to have major surgery to replace the affected vertebrae in her neck.   The surgery was almost barbaric and the pain only got worse.  I knew I could not go through that.  .
Reluctantly, I decided to give Dr. Kershen a shot – what was the worst that could happen?  Even if he did disconnect my head from my spine, my arm wouldn’t tingle as much, right?   I was a very hysterical, crying, petrified woman sitting in the examination room looking at x-rays.  He was trying to show me what was wrong with my neck and I burst into tears.  He has told me since that he didn’t know just how terrified I was until he saw tears.  But, with the patience of a saint, he assured me that in all his years of practice, he only had ONE patient that had their head separated during an adjustment .  I was instantly relieved and decided I had nothing to lose by letting him try to help me.  And  I thank God every day that I did.
My first few sessions were a little nervewracking, to say the least.  He was very gentle and didn’t do anything very strong so I would not get scared.  By the 2nd week of treatments he told me we can take this gentle and SLOW; or let him do the kind of adjustment it would take to get me in better health in a more reasonable time.  I told him to do what he needed to do and with that we worked 3 times  a week for about 3 months and I was seeing light at the end of my tunnel.  By March of 2010, I was pain free for the majority of the time and only took medicine on an occasional basis.
I had energy, optimism and even started walking for exercise.  Dr. Kershen and his staff have taken a personal interest in me and my overall well-being.  I told one of the nurses I was trying to lose weight.  I had already lost 17 lbs. but I was having trouble losing more.  They helped me find the answer for that with a herbal diet supplement that had no side effects and it worked!  To this day, I have lost a total of 35 lbs and I’m still going strong.  We also found a combination of minerals and vitamins that stopped my “hot flashes” that plagued me every day since my hysterectomy in 1999.
I have followed every bit of advice Dr. Kershen has to offer and follow any instructions or recommendations he gives me.  He and his staff have never steered me wrong.  I am a new woman because of all the support, encouragement and friendship they have shown me these past few months.
Now, I actually took a real vacation for the first time in 8 years or more!  I flew to Las Vegas for a week and from there flew to Los Angeles for another week.  I walked down the strip and went to the top of the Stratosphere hotel and looked over their observation deck on the roof of the building.  It was an amazing trip and I  felt good the whole time I was gone.  I have also driven to Austin to help my oldest son find an apartment and will drive down again next week to move him.  I know to a lot of people, this doesn’t sound like much, but I didn’t even have the “gumption” to go to Amarillo for holidays before my adjustments!
All I can say is that everything happens for a reason and I believe that God puts people in your life when you need them the most.  I’m forever thankful He put all the wonderful people at Kershen Chiropractic in mine.  May they all be as blessed as they have made me feel!
